Sustainable Buildings, A Salesforce App for the Clean Energy Marketplace

Sustainable Buildings, LLC was founded by Dan Connors in response to a need for a sale/marketing tool to help clean energy solution providers better address the large and growing New York City clean buildings market.

In his many years as an energy entrepreneur, Dan was concerned with the introduction of both mature and new clean energy solutions to targeted market sectors. In recent years this included strategic marketing work to address the growing New York City clean buildings market, fostered by Local Laws 84, 97 and other legislation. Because the NYC legislation collects and publishes the environmental attributes of most buildings over 25,000 square foot size, there is an abundance of valuable building market data for clean energy solution providers to develop their market strategy and execution.

HOWEVER, the data, published in massive spreadsheets typically requires many hours of work to organize, filter and deliver in a useful form to sales/marketing people, even just for initial market assessments or preliminary prospecting work. Then, if the data is used for a marketing campaign for example, tracking and following up on specific customer interactions with the context of the specific building real estate and energy information can be another tedious time consuming burden.

Customer Relationship Management software packages, such as Salesforce and HubSpot can be a big help, perhaps vital in some organizations. However, the user still needs to link and integrate the massive amount of published building data into their core CRM system. This is more time consuming work, in many cases being done by highly qualified sales and marketing professionals spending hours immersed in endless spreadsheet data rather than engaged in outreach and dialogue with actual sales prospects.

The solution: The Building Energy Data Platform - NYC Edition, available first for Salesforce.com users, that will seamlessly integrate the NYC building real estate and environmental data directly into the Salesforce CRM.

With his experience as a clean energy solution provider to emerging markets, and with about 20 years experience with the Salesforce CRM tool, Dan Connors personally “knows the pain” for sales and marketing professionals with similar ambitions.

The first version of the App focuses on the New York City buildings market. Later versions will expand to other cities. Likewise, the first version is an App on the Salesforce.com AppExchange. Later versions will expand to other CRM solutions.
